My work is Strengths Based and rooted in two primary healing frameworks: Somatic Experiencing® and Attachment Repatterning. Together, they create a space where the body and nervous system can gently unwind old survival responses, while the heart begins to trust safe connection again.
Somatic & Attachment Therapy in North Carolina
I’m a North Carolina LCSW providing online somatic and attachment-focused therapy for thoughtful, capable adults who are burned out, over-functioning, or stuck in patterns that insight and talk therapy alone haven’t changed, including midlife women exploring diagnosed or suspected ADHD or autism.
Who I Commonly Work With
I often work with adults who are insightful, responsible, and highly capable—people whose lives may look good on paper but no longer feel right. They’re exhausted from managing, accommodating, and pushing through.
My practice is queer- and trans-affirming.
Many have already done years of therapy. They understand their patterns intellectually but find themselves reacting in familiar ways when they are overwhelmed, in conflict, disappointed, disconnected, or trying to figure out what they actually need.
Some are neurodivergent or suspect they may be neurodivergent, including adults with ADHD, autism, or both. A formal diagnosis is not required to work with me.
Many of the people I work with are women in midlife who are navigating burnout, menopause, retirement, career or relationship changes, a late neurodivergence diagnosis, or simply the realization that ways of coping that worked for years no longer work as well.
For some women, perimenopause or menopause is also the point when long-standing ways of coping, compensating, or masking become harder to sustain. They may begin wondering for the first time whether ADHD or autism could help explain experiences they have managed or hidden for much of their lives. I work with women who are exploring those questions, whether or not they choose to pursue a formal diagnosis.
Common patterns include:
- Over-functioning or taking responsibility for other adults
- Difficulty recognizing or stating needs
- Accommodating others automatically
- Feeling responsible for other people’s reactions or disappointment
- Knowing where a boundary should be but struggling to hold it
- Masking, sensory overwhelm, shutdown, or emotional flooding
- Feeling highly competent at work while privately overwhelmed by the effort required to keep everything going
- Understanding a pattern clearly but still feeling unable to respond differently when it gets activated
Services I Offer
Therapy
I provide individual therapy for adults working with nervous-system overwhelm, attachment and relationship patterns, neurodivergence, chronic over-functioning, and the experience of having substantial insight without the change they expected that insight to bring.
My work is collaborative, strengths-based, somatic, attachment-informed, and neuro-affirming.
My primary therapeutic frameworks are Somatic Experiencing® and Dynamic Attachment Repatterning experience (DARe). I also integrate Strength Based Solution Focused Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Talk Therapy, Mindfulness, and Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), also known as tapping, depending on the needs of the individual client.
These approaches do not all have the same role in my work. Somatic Experiencing and attachment-focused work provide much of the framework for how I understand patterns and work with change. Talk Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Strength Based Solution Focused Interviewing give us additional ways to understand your experience, identify what is already working, and explore practical changes.
I also teach skills that clients can use outside of sessions to support regulation and awareness. Mindfulness is an everyday skill I use with clients to help them notice what is happening in the present moment with greater awareness. When appropriate, I may also teach Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), commonly called tapping, as one of several tools a client can experiment with for regulation.
The point is not to fit you into a particular technique. We use the approaches and skills that are useful for understanding what is happening and helping you develop more choice in how you respond.
- If you’re here because you understand your patterns but your body still seems to react before you can choose differently, start here → Somatic Experiencing®
- If attachment patterns, boundaries, closeness, conflict, or other people’s reactions are a primary concern, start here → Attachment Repatterning
-
If you’re navigating midlife with ADHD or autism—or wondering whether you might be neurodivergent—start here → Therapy for Neurodivergent Women in Midlife
When This Work Is a Good Fit
This work is often a good fit for people who already have insight into themselves but want help with what happens when familiar patterns are activated in real life.
You may benefit from this approach if you want a therapist who is engaged, collaborative, and willing to gently challenge you rather than simply listen and nod.
You may also be a good fit if you are interested in paying attention to your nervous system and your experience in the present moment—not only talking about why you feel or behave the way you do.
You do not need to perform therapy correctly or have the perfect explanation for what is happening.
One question I often ask is: “When this therapy helps you, what will be different? How will you know?”
Your answers might be surprisingly ordinary.
You might recognize that you’re overloaded before everything becomes impossible. Make a request without rehearsing it for three days. Let another adult be disappointed without immediately trying to fix their reaction. Notice what you need before automatically figuring out what everyone else needs from you.
The aim isn’t perfect regulation. It’s having more ability to recognize what is happening, trust your own experience, and have more choice about what happens next.
When This May Not Be the Best Fit
This may not be the best fit if you’re looking for a passive therapist, a formal ADHD or autism evaluation, couples or family therapy, emergency or crisis services, or a higher level of care.
My practice may also not be the appropriate setting for some persistent active eating disorders, severe dissociative presentations, or situations in which acute instability makes this kind of outpatient therapy unsafe or inaccessible.
Finding the right level and type of support matters more than trying to make yourself fit a particular therapist.
Credentials & Experience
Training and Clinical Background
I earned my Master of Social Work (MSW), with a clinical concentration, from the University of North Carolina Wilmington in 2009 and have been fully licensed as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) since 2011.
In clinical practice since 2009, I have specialized in working with acute and chronic trauma using Somatic Experiencing® and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy within a strengths-based, solution-focused framework.
I have trained in Somatic Experiencing® since 2003 and have been a fully credentialed Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP) since 2009. I have also taught SE Basics and assisted with Somatic Experiencing trainings at all levels.
I integrate somatic work with attachment-focused therapy, including Dynamic Attachment Repatterning experience (DARe). My broader clinical approach also incorporates Strength Based Solution Focused Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Talk Therapy, Mindfulness, and Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), also known as tapping.
I have worked with neurodivergent adults, including adults with ADHD, as well as highly sensitive and creative adults for more than a decade.
My perspective is also informed by my lived experience as an AuDHD person.
I bring clinical knowledge, training, and experience to our work, but I do not assume that expertise makes me the authority on your internal experience. You are the expert on your life.
We figure it out together.
